3 JCI History Our global organization of 200,000 young active citizens grew out of the vision of one St. Louisian more than 90 years ago as a constructive approach to civic problems. Founded in 1915 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA by Henry Giessenbier, the movement spread, and Junior Chamber International was founded with eight other countries in 1944.

4 Greensboro History Chartered October 24, 1936 The Greensboro Jaycees are responsible for the origin of the golf tournament now known as the Wyndham Championship as well the Holiday Parade, a Greensboro tradition since 1976. Chartered the first institutional chapter at Sandy Ridge in 1967. The highest achievement for a Jaycee chapter to attain is the U.S. Jaycees Harold A. Marks Memorial Award in 1965, 1968, 1991, 1995 and 2009. The Dr. Jerry Bruce Memorial Award is presented annually to the chapter having the best single project entry in the Nation. 1965 and 1988 The Wayne McColl Award is presented annually to three outstanding Junior Chamber (JCI) coordinators in the nation. 2001 Gene Shanks NC Jaycees State Presidents Maria Hicks Few (2010) and Jennifer Salmon (2012)

7 Project Planning The project is the heart of Jaycee activities. Whether it's hosting a national softball tournament, visiting a nursing home, learning business skills, or a having fun at a membership social, any planned gathering of Jaycees is a project. Projects provide an opportunity for members to practically develop organizational, planning, team-building, leadership and management skills. It is also the medium by which young people around the world can best create positive change. What skills have you gained from planning and running your project(s)? What have you learned? Have your thoughts or feelings about yourself, the world or the community changed? How?

11 The Ideal JCI Member When looking for members, consider these aspects: 1.Is energized by the JCI Mission and purpose 2.Wants to grow and expand their horizons 3.Is active in the community 4.Is somewhat younger than the average age of current members

12 Build An Attractive Organization A positive image, a high community profile and unique activities will naturally attract the interest of young people. Engage current members in exciting, meaningful activities that are visible to the community. Build a positive reputation in your community by living and acting through the JCI Mission.

Will be holding competitions in August and January!
