5 ESAP A series of skills-based courses. Specifically for students using English to study their subject at tertiary level. Covers a wide range of academic subjects. For upper-intermediate students needing to learn contextualized English. Enables students to develop skills on discipline-specific texts.

6 ESAP Systematic approach to developing academic skills through relevant content. Focus on receptive skills (reading and listening) to activate productive skills (writing and speaking) in subject area. Vocabulary and academic skills banks in each unit for reference and revision. Two audio CDs with each title for self-study or use in class.

7 ESAP Components Each title has the following components: Course Book with 2 audio CDs Teacher’s Book

8 ESAP website The site consists of a collection of links on various topics relevant to the study of the discipline. There are links to unit-related material, professional bodies, language resources and supplementary topics.

9 ESAP Course Books 12 Units per title. Odd-numbered units are based on listening. Even-numbered units based on reading. Each unit divided into 4 lessons of 8 pages combining language and academic skills. 4 to 6 hours of classroom activity per unit. A further 2 to 4 hours on additional activities. Ideal as a core component on a faculty- specific course of between 50 and 80 hours.

10 ESAP Course Books Lesson 1: Vocabulary for the discipline. Lesson 2: Reading or listening text and skills development. Lesson 3: Reading of listening skills extension. In later units students are introduced to writing assignments or spoken language points. Lesson 4: A parallel listening or reading text encouraging students to use new skills from lesson 3; in addition, written or spoken work is further practised.

11 ESAP Course Books Course Books also contain: A Book map showing skills and vocabulary focuses. Two audio CDs with over two hours of material. Vocabulary and academic skills banks in each unit. Full audio transcripts. A wordlist.

Writing How to produce coherent and well- structured assignments, including such skills as paraphrasing and the use of appropriate academic phrases.

16 ESAP Resources Vocabulary A wide range of activities to develop students' knowledge and use of key vocabulary, both in the specific field and academic study in general. Vocabulary and skills banks A reference source to provide students with quick access to, and practice of, key words, phrases and skills in each unit.
