1 Use the K.I.M. Strategy to remember and understand Vocabulary! K=Key Word I=Information M=Memory Cue

2 Why do I Need to Do This?  Because our readings will introduce us to many NEW and EXCITING words, it is important to come up with ways to remember and understand the meaning of these words.  If we understand the meanings of words, it will help us with the most important thing: Taking meaning from our readings!

3 How do I Do This? As you learned in the lesson, the best way to learn the meanings of new words is through context, or using the other words as clues. But sometimes, you need a little extra help understanding and remembering more difficult words. That’s where this assignment comes in!

4 Read these directions carefully! 1.Look at each vocabulary word in the Key Word column. Use the page number to locate the vocabulary word in the text. 2.In the Information column: a)Write the definition in your own words. b)Tell which context clues from the text helped you understand the definition. 3.In the Memory Cue column, select a picture using the pictures on slide 13 to help you remember the word’s meaning.

6 How Will I be Graded? A, A-B+, B, B-C+, C, C-D+, D, D-F I filled in all parts of the chart for all of the vocabulary words. The definitions and pictures I added showed I have a solid understanding of the meanings of the words. I filled in all parts of the chart for all of the vocabulary words. 3 or fewer of the definitions and pictures I chose did not show a true understanding of the vocabulary word. I filled in most parts of the chart for all of the vocabulary words. 3 or more of the definitions and pictures I chose did not show a true understanding of the vocabulary word. I tried, but I didn’t really understand this assignment. I need to check my teachers feedback and read the directions. I will resubmit for a higher grade. I did not attempt to complete this assignment.
