2 All Quiet On The Western Front View film Film Response – Write down the words that come to mind as you watch the film. Write your ideas under the following headings (set up a full page) What I see? Eg Thick oozing mud…. What I hear? The deafening noise of gunfire…. The mood and atmosphere? Death and destruction…. Write a ¼ page expressing your feelings about what you see.

4 Why did soldiers write poetry? Poetry helped the soldiers deal with their feelings and emotions. The poems gave those at home a glimpse of the awful reality of life and death in the trenches. The reader is confronted with strong and vivid images of the human toll of war – mud, cold, fear. They describe the indescribable. The poetry told the story that the media and government didn’t tell. (Propaganda)
