2 Three basic concepts Karma: the force behind events in life. Based on merits and demerits accumulated by good or bad deeds you do in life. Good Karma (deeds)=good next life. Bad Karma (deeds)=bad next life.

3 Three basic concepts Samsara: wheel of birth and death. Living creatures experience many lifetimes. After each death, he will be reborn into another status. Nirvana: the stage of saintliness. This is the state where one has broken out of the wheel of birth and death.

4 Buddhism in India Found by Buddha Gautama (560 B.C. — 480 B.C He was a Hindu. Originally was an Indian prince. Did not feel that wealth brought on happiness. Left palace and family to gain spiritual enlightenment.

5 Four Noble Truths 1. All life is characterized by suffering. 2.Suffering originates in craving(wanting). 3.The complete stopping of craving can stop suffering. 4. The Noble Eight-fold Path stops suffering.

6 Eight Fold Path a. Right views b. Right intentions c. Right speech d. Right conduct e. Right livelihood f. Right effort g. Right mindfulness h. Right concentration End result is nirvana. May take many lives.

7 Tibet The leader of Tibet is the Dalai Lama He is Buddha reincarnated Tibet would like to be it’s own independent country Communist China has claimed it as it’s own.
