4. 1. What does the Holy Spirit do to keep on sanctifying me by the Gospel? a. Psalm 119:104* The Holy Spirit leads me to hate sin b. Ephesians 2:10* He remakes me to do the good works God has for me to do c. Titus 2:14* He leads me to be eager to do good

5. Sanctification (wide sense): The entire work of Holy Spirit using the Gospel to call me to faith and to keep me living in the faith. Sanctification (narrow sense): The specific work of the Holy Spirit to lead me by the Gospel to eagerly do good works

7. 2. What is a good work? a. Isaiah 64:6* Even the best that we do is still dirtied by sin and we need Jesus' blood to wash us clean b. John 15:5, 7* Good works are empowered by Jesus living in me -- only believers c. Colossians 3:17* Good works are motivated by thankful love for what Jesus has done for me

8. 2. What is a good work? d. Psalm 119:105* Good works are guided by God's will revealed in the Bible

9. Good Works: Anything a believer does out of thankful love to Jesus in line with God's Word

10. *Fruits of faith: Another name for good works, since faith will produce good works, just as a good fruit tree produces fruit

11. 3. How does the Holy Spirit keep me in the true faith? a. Ephesians 6:11, 12* The forces of evil (devil world, sinful nature) want to kill my faith b. Ephesians 6:17* God's Word defeats them as I take it to heart and live it in my life
