2 August 10 & 11 th Artist - Edward Hopper Title- Nighthawks Date-1942 Medium- Oil on Canvas IF: Edward Hopper is one of Ms. Sullivan’s favorite artist and Nighthawks is Ms. Sullivan’s favorite painting by Hopper.

3 August 12 th & 15 th Title: V-J Day in Times Square Artist: Alfred Eisenstaedt Date: 1945 Medium: photograph IF: This photo portrays an American sailor randomly kissing a nurse on Victory over Japan Day (V-J Day) in Times Square, New York City, on August 14, 1945.

4 August 16 th & 17 th Artist- Edvard Munch Title- The Scream Date- 1893 Medium- oil, tempera and pastel on cardboard. IF: The Scream has been the target of several high- profile art thefts. In both 1994 & 2004, The Scream was stolen and later recovered.

5 August 18 th & 19 th Artist: Grant Wood Title: American Gothic Date: 1930 Medium: oil on canvas IF: American Gothic is one of the few paintings to achieve iconic cultural status, along with da Vinci's Mona Lisa and Munch's The Scream. It is thus one of the most reproduced and parodied images ever.

6 August 22 nd & 23 rd Artist: Leonardo da Vinci Title: Mona Lisa Date: 1503-1519 Medium: oil on poplar IF: Leonardo is revered for his technological ingenuity. He conceptualized a helicopter, a tank, concentrated solar power, a calculator.

7 August 24 th & 25 th Artist- HC Porter Title- Spiderman Date- 2005-07 Medium- Mixed Media Painting IF: In September 2005, Porter began to tell the visual stories of people putting their lives back together, after hurricane Katrina in the coastal communities of Mississippi. For the next year, she captured black and white portraits that would serve as the basis of her paintings.

8 August 26 th & 29 th Artist: Norman Rockwell Title: The American Way Date: 1944 Medium: oil on canvas IF: Rockwell had his first paying assignment at 16. By the age of 19 he was the art director for Boys' Life magazine. His first cover of Saturday Evening Post appeared in 1916, when he was just 22.

9 August 30 th & 31 st Artist: Edward Hopper Title: Chop Suey Date: 1929 Medium: oil on canvas IF: According to some art scholars, one “striking detail” of Chop Suey is that its female subject faces her doppelganger.

10 September 1 st & 2 nd Artist-Pablo Picasso Title-The weeping Woman Date-1937 Medium- Oil on Canvas IF: In 1908, Picasso and Braque began to define a style that would become known as Cubism. The style draws heavily on geometry, angles and perspective.

11 September 6 th & 7 th Artist: Salvador Dali Title: The Persistence of Memory Date: 1931 Medium: oil on canvas IF: The orange clock at the bottom left of the painting is covered in ants. Dali often used ants in his paintings as a symbol for death.

12 September 8 th & 9 th Title: Faces of Ground Zero Artist: Joe McNally Date: 2001 Medium: photograph IF: After the attacks of September 11, 2001, McNally, embarked on a project in a studio only blocks from Ground Zero: To make portraits of men, women and children involved in the tragedy. In this picture are the fire-fighting Gleason Brothers. Patrick was working when the alarm came in. His brothers Richard, who was off-duty, and Peter, who was retired, geared up to join the effort.

13 September 12 th & 13 th Title- Guernica Artist- Pablo Picasso Date- 1937Medium- Oil on canvas IF: This is one of Picasso’s most famous works created during the Spanish Civil War. It is a huge mural painting depicting the Nazi bombing of the Spanish town by the same name. The mural is 11 feet tall and more than 25 feet wide.
