2 Include the 5 W’s – this gives the reader a concise summary of the story Include an important or interesting fact to get reader’s attention such as: this is the fifteenth loss in a row, or the team has extended their winning streak to 10 in a row

3 Newspaper articles include metaphors/analogies Technical sports terms Vibrant language – great word choice (exciting language) They are direct and to the point

4 Know the rules History League standings Current controversies if any

5 Report the basic chronology: beginning, middle and end of the event Give details about the major moments, turning points, big mistakes, momentum shifts Pay attention to who does what

6 Include quotes from players, coaches, anyone involved

7 Like regular news articles, sports articles should correctly present the facts. (for your own story, try to be as correct as possible)
