7 Pax Romana First 200 Years of the Roman Empire Period of Peace Lasted until AD 180 Characteristics: Stable government Organized military During this time: Population grew Trade increased Many grew wealthy

8 Cities  Big trading cities often had a large population  Poor Romans in cities lived in crowded and not so nice houses  Lots of entertainment in the cities: Chariot races, bath houses, gladiator fights, monuments and temples  More people lived in the country than in the cities  Rural areas: people farmed  Large farms and Villas (county homes for rich Romans) scattered  Vacation home where they lived it up and had slaves and big parties
