2 USDA Organic organic operations must demonstrate that they are protecting natural resources, conserving biodiversity, and using only approved substances.

3 USDA Organic These methods integrate cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. Synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering may not be used.

4 USDA Organic To meet the USDA organic regulations, farmers and processors must show they aren’t using GMOs and that they are protecting their products from contact with prohibited substances from farm to table.

5 Fair Trade Certified One of the most important aspects of Fair Trade is funds are specifically designated for social, economic and environmental development projects.

6 Fair Trade Certified Farmers learn and implement environmentally sustainable practices. Workers are empowered to demand fair wages and treatment. Workers and their families gain access to doctors, medicine and proper nutrition. Women are guaranteed health care, rights and freedom from harassment.

7 Energy Star ENERGY STAR is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) voluntary program that helps businesses and individuals save money and protect our climate through superior energy efficiency.

8 Energy Star established by EPA in 1992 in order to reduce energy consumption, improve energy security, and reduce pollution through voluntary labeling of products and buildings that meet the highest energy efficiency standards.

9 Energy Star Purchasing products with this label should: Lower energy bills Help to conserve energy Lower greenhouse gas emissions
