3 Elizabeth Truss – Parliamentary Under Secretary of State ‘More great childcare: Raising quality and giving parents more choice’ Proposals Published 29th January 2013 ‘…too many people who work with young children are under-qualified and the system for qualifications is confusing and inadequate.’

4 More Great Childcare  This now supersedes Supporting Families in the Foundation Years.  Early years teachers and early years educators  School readiness – ‘traditional’ nursery classes  EYP standards being aligned with teacher standards  EY teachers to take same skills test as classroom teacher trainees  Schools taking on younger children  Childminder agencies – flexible partnerships with schools and children’s centres  Ofsted – sole arbiter of quality

5 Children and Families Bill 2013 The Children and Families Bill takes forward the Coalition Government’s commitments to improve services for vulnerable children and support strong families. It underpins wider reforms to ensure that all children and young people can succeed, no matter what their background. The Bill will reform the systems for adoption, looked after children, family justice and special educational needs. It will encourage growth in the childcare sector, introduce a new system of shared parental leave and ensure children in England have a strong advocate for their rights:
