How will the SATs be marked?  Tests will continue to be marked externally, with the exception of Writing which will be teacher assessed. So far, expect your child to receive:  Raw Score (e.g. 70 / 110 for Mathematics)  Scaled Scores for the test (like international tests) out of 100 (100 being the norm)  Confirmation of whether or not your child has attained the national standard. Scaled Score Information – https://www.gov.uk/guidance/scaled-scoreshttps://www.gov.uk/guidance/scaled-scores

What are we doing to support your child?  Quality First Teaching  Specialist Teaching  Smaller Class Sizes (25)  Interventions / Boosters – In Class / Out of Class / Before and After School  Brand new resources purchased for the new tests  Targeted homework activities to reinforce / consolidate learning in class  Practice Questions Daily  Explicit teaching of test techniques  Pastoral Support – To ensure your child is ready to learn  (Special arrangements can be made for some children if necessary.)

What to do now

How can I support my child? (Your questions answered) Mathematics 1.Know their multiplication tables up to 12 x 12 including related division facts e.g. 56 = 8 ÷ 7 2.Formal column methods for 4 operations ( +, -, x, ÷ ) 3.Arithmetic Fluency – Accuracy and Speed

English Reading  Read with your child daily.  Get your child to read to you and ask the types of questions as outlined previously.  Reading your child’s book aloud to them whilst your child follows the text will help your child learn the role and importance of punctuation e.g. the importance of inverted commas to mark speech, the use of parenthesis (brackets) to add extra information, the use of ellipsis … to mark a pause, the use of capital letters and full stops to mark sentence boundaries etc.

SPaG Help your child learn the spellings that are sent home. SPaG relies on children knowing, understanding, being able to recall and apply grammatical terminology. E.g. Noun, Verb, Subject, Object, Adjective, Adverb, Article, Determiner, Pronoun, Preposition, Conjunction, Prefix, Suffix, Synonyms, Antonyms, Root Words, Different Types of Clauses – Main Clause, Relative Clauses, Subordinate Clause, Different Verb Tenses, Phrases, Active, Passive, Subjunctive Where to place different punctuation marks – Capital Letter, Full Stop, Question Mark, Exclamation Mark, Inverted Commas, Dash, Hyphen, Brackets, Colon, Handwriting Expectations ( Demonstration ) Legible Fluent Joined
