1 API SUBCOMMITTEE 17 SUMMER MEETING 13 January 2016 1/13/2016 Subsea Industry Standardization Landscape Terry Cook – API SC17 Vice-Chair

2 1/13/2016 Industry Standardization Status Reference previous material (Winter & Summer 2015 meetings) for detailed listing of subsea industry standardization efforts (courtesy of IOGP Subsea Installations Taskforce). In addition to previously discussed activities, the principal new ongoing/planned efforts include the following: Forging material JIP – Phase 2 (ITP): DnV GL, 2015-16 Supplement to API 17D (draft) – IOGP Subsea Tree Standardization - JIP33 (IOGP) Despite substantial Subsea Standardization activity, there seems to be little or no apparent overlap/conflicts between players.

3 1/13/2016 IOGP Supplement & JIP33 In September 2015 the IOGP Subsea Committee distributed a draft “Supplementary Requirements to API 17D” document to members for comment. In November 2015 a group of 10 companies - BP, Total, Sonangol, Eni, Shell, Woodside, Engie, Saudi Aramco, Chevron and Statoil – kicked off a new joint industry project (JIP33) for Standardization of Equipment Specifications for Procurement. JIP33, facilitated by IOGP and supported by the World Economic Forum, will initially focus on three items to prove up the concept: ball valves, subsea trees & wellhead equipment and low voltage switchgear. It is understood that the “Supplementary Requirements “ drafted by IOGP will be folded into the JIP33 Subsea Tree & Wellhead effort as initial feedstock.

4 1/13/2016 IOGP/JIP33 – Proposed SC17 Support The SC17 Leadership Team perspective of the IOGP/JIP33 Subsea Tree effort is that it involves a “content” consideration, as well as “how can API work with/facilitate these efforts?”. Currently, the “content” portion is being pursued through IOGP/JIP33 efforts, and there is no perceived need for direct API interaction. As the “content” is being developed, API can help facilitate eventual integration into the upcoming 3 rd edition of API 17D. SC17 Leadership Team Proposal: 1.SC17 is receptive to the IOGP/WEF JIP33 initiative 2.Current view is that this work should eventually integrate into the17D document – separate documents could impact standardization negatively. 3.Envision that the work would ultimately reside in an Informative annex and a Normative annex 4.Will leave it to the API17D Task Group to work through the details. The 3 rd Edition effort is just starting – so timing potentially is good.
