EXPANDING THERMAL TECHNOLOGY IN NYC By Kenny Rodriguez ECON 2505 Prof Sean MacDonald

WHAT IS THERMAL TECHNOLOGY? Thermal technology is a form of renewable energy that uses the heat from the sun to produce energy. This form of technology can be used in residential or commercial buildings for cooling systems and to heat up water.

ST. MARY'S RECREATION CENTER This building has carriers in the roof that use the heat from the sun to heat up the water of the swimming pools. The panels were installed by a company called: Ely beach solar 450 St Ann's Ave, Bronx, NY 10455

HOW DOES THERMAL TECHNOLOGY HEAT UP WATER?

GREENHOUSE GAS PRODUCTION IN NYC * Over 50% of the energy that a NYC building produces is related to water heating and cooling/heating. Increasing the use of thermal technology in NY buildings will dramatically reduce the amount of green house gas produced by buildings. *http://www.cuny.edu/about/resources/sustainability/s olar- america/solarthermal/CUNY_NYC_Solar_Thermal_FINAL. pdf

GENERAL ADVANTAGES OF THERMAL TECHNOLOGY It does not burn any fossil fuels. (no pollution) On site energy production. (no need to transport fuels ) Can create cost effective solutions. (can be seen as an investment opportunity)

HOW NEW YORK STATE CAN BENEFIT FROM THERMAL TECHNOLOGY Installing and designing the tech will create 24,000 new jobs. Up to 2.6 billion dollars in revenue by the year 2020. Can save over 350,000 tons of CO2 emissions. Consumers save a total of $175 million per year. Will help achieve NYC's goal of reducing greenhouse gasses. http://www.quixotic- systems.com/imgs/solarroadmap.pdf
