5 RSA-1 GET THE RIGHT INFORMATION Call into RSA and ask to speak with TRS, PEEHIP, and RSA-1 Counselors. You can always walk into the main office in Montgomery or make an appointment. Download our handbooks! There is a lot information in them.

6 RSA-1 HOW WILL YOU FUND RETIREMENT ? 1.Monthly RSA Benefit – your pension 2.Social Security 3.A Personal Savings Plan RSA-1 could be your Personal Savings Plan.

7 RSA-1 WHAT IS THE RSA-1 PLAN ? An eligible 457 Deferred Compensation Plan Allows you to defer a portion of your salary until a later time – RETIREMENT Earnings, too, are tax deferred!

8 RSA-1 INVESTMENT OPTIONS 1.Bond Fund Majority Corporate & Governmental Bonds 2.Stock Fund S&P 500 Index Fund 3. Short Term Investment Fund (STIF) Mix of securities, U.S. T-Bills, and notes

9 RSA-1 INVESTMENT OPTIONS Members & Beneficiaries can modify the investment options once every 90 days. Choose to invest your existing account balance differently than your future deferrals. Split among the 3 investment options. For example, percentages could be: 50/25/25 or 75/0/25 or 80/20/0, and so on.

10 RSA-1 INVESTMENTS: WHO MAKES THE DECISIONS ? Dr. Bronner & the RSA Investment Staff - The same people who invest your retirement monies do the investing for the RSA-1 Deferred Compensation Plan.

11 RSA-1 NO FEES! You will pay NO FEES for your RSA-1 Account. Remember: We are public service employees just like you!

12 RSA-1 CONTRIBUTIONS: MINIMUM & MAXIMUMS There is currently no set minimum contribution. For instance, it could be only $10.00 per pay period. The maximums in 2016 are set at: $18,000.00/year if under age 50 $24,000.00/year if age 50 or older $36,000.00/year if you are eligible & participating in “Special Catch-up.”

13 RSA-1 WILL RSA-1 DEFERRALS AFFECT MY RETIREMENT BENEFIT ? NO! Your monthly TRS retirement benefit is calculated by using your gross salary.

14 RSA-1 HOW DO I GET MY MONEY OUT ? 1)Separate from service through retirement or termination from employment, OR 2)Attain age 70 ½, OR 3)Experience an Unforeseeable Emergency as defined by the US Treasury.

15 RSA-1 DISTRIBUTIONS Lump Sum Partial Lump Sum Equal Monthly or Annual Payments Delay distribution until a future date (by April 1 st of the year following the year you reach age 70 ½).

16 RSA-1 ANOTHER GREAT RSA-1 BENEFIT Your RSA-1 funds may be used to purchase permissible service credit. Such as: Withdrawn Service Military Service Out-of-State Public Service

17 RSA-1 JOINING RSA-1 IS SIMPLE ! Just complete the following forms which can be found in the back of the RSA-1 Handbook that can be downloaded from the RSA website: 1)Enrollment Form (Send to RSA) 2)Beneficiary Designation Form (Send to RSA) 3)Investment Option Election Form (Send to RSA) 4)Authorization to Defer Form (Give to your payroll officer)

18 RSA-1 REMEMBER THIS … There is no open enrollment period for RSA-1; you can join at any time. Deferral amounts may be changed at any time in accordance with your college’s policy. You are mailed RSA-1 account statements on a quarterly basis.
