The contributor also acknowledges and accepts that this contribution may be made public by IEEE 802.19. Patent Policy and Procedures: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802 Patent Policy and Procedures, including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the TAG of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE 802.19 TAG. 2 doc.: WCAG-06/0001r0 Submission March 2006 Tom Siep, Cambridge Silicon RadioSlide 2 Abstract A group of people have met informally (ad hoc) to discuss cross- wireless-WG attributes and issues for the last year –Follow-up to “802 Architecture Group” meetings on Sunday –Formally referred to as “Wireless Architecture SubGroup” –Name caused confusion so proposes to call itself “Wireless Coordination Activity Group”, since that is closer to its function. This group discusses issues that are perceived to be common to wireless systems and their interactions with wired systems. –Open discussion forum –It met twice this week (usually once on Monday) –Outputs outlined in this document.

3 doc.: WCAG-06/0001r0 Submission March 2006 Tom Siep, Cambridge Silicon RadioSlide 3 Topics of Most Import Discussed Consensus of the group was that the most important topics were: –perceived disconnect about where location awareness needs to be specified –perceived disconnect with service/ SAP/ API needs in our standards –promote commonality of mesh-like efforts via joint meetings to foster coordination Agreement that individuals will take actions to pursue these topics

4 doc.: WCAG-06/0001r0 Submission March 2006 Tom Siep, Cambridge Silicon RadioSlide 4 Outputs Planned by Individuals Location awareness (Ivan Reede, lead) –Refine location awareness concepts discussed –Propose to develop tutorial for next plenary –Call for interest will be issued if approved Service Access Point (SAP) and Application Programmer’s Interface (API) (Darwin Engwer, lead) –Research standards reference materials –Present attributes of SAPs needed by wireless to 802.0 in July Commonality of mesh-like relationships in several WWGs (complete with this presentation) –Recommend to EC for joint meeting(s) of the 3 groups involved –Expectation is that both differences and commonalities exist –A common set of terms with consistent meanings is at least one desirable output

5 doc.: WCAG-06/0001r0 Submission March 2006 Tom Siep, Cambridge Silicon RadioSlide 5 Note on meeting procedure Although this is a group which is not meant to create any projects directly, we do explain the IEEE patent policy and anti-trust policy at each meeting as a matter of course Minutes are taken and will be posted. There is no formal structure, officers, or procedures other than the above. Meetings are run consensus-driven. Outputs are the product of individuals, not the group
