Climate change By Joanna

Introduction Climate change (otherwise known as global warming) is when the earth is heated up by greenhouse gasses.

What is the main cause of climate change? The main cause of climate change is us. Humans are the biggest cause. When we make products like tables or water bottles it sends gases into the atmosphere. These gases are known as greenhouse gases. The main gas in it is Carbon dioxide. The sun’s rays heat up the earth and most of these are reflected back up to space. The remaining rays are trapped in the atmosphere and these are the greenhouse gases.

What are the effects of climate change? One effect is that, because the ice will melt because of the rising heat, some animal habitats will be lost and the animals that live there will become extinct. Another effect is that the sea levels will rise and low-lying islands will disappear.

Glossary Throughout the text you might have noticed the highlighted words. If you didn’t know what they meant originally now is the time to find out. (Page 2, 3) Greenhouse gases = The gasses made by human activity. It is mostly made up of the gas Carbon Dioxide (Co2). (Page 3,) Carbon dioxide = The gas that we breathe out and trees and plants ‘breathe in’. The plants then turn this into oxygen which we breathe in – and the process starts again.
