First of all, be sure that you really do want to quit. Because once the deed is done, it can be difficult to ask for your job back.

You should never quit a job without Finding another job first.

It's always wise to not burn bridges. You never know when you will need your past employers for a reference.

Always give notice! If you have an employment contract that states how much notice you should give, abide by it. Otherwise, it's appropriate to offer two weeks notice.two weeks notice

If your employer asks you to stay, longer than two weeks (or the time period in your contract) you have no obligation to stay.

What you could do, is offer to help your previous employer, if necessary, after hours, via email or on the phone.

The most common form of notice is A letter of resignation

What should be said in a letter of resignation?

Don't say much more than, you are leaving. Emphasize the positive and talk about how the company has benefited you, but, mention that it's time to move on.

Quitting your job means two things.your job First, you are ending a business relationship. Secondly, you are quitting, not bargaining.business

Even if you're leaving a job flipping burgers, crafting a resignation letter will make you look more professional. Your letter should be in formal business letter format, and it should include the following items: * your intent to leave * the date on which you will leave * the date on which you are submitting the letter * your signature You don't need to apologize, say thank you, or explain why you're leaving. All that needs to go in your personnel file is the bare facts.personnel file Your letter may end up being quite sparse, and that's okay. You do need to address the letter to an individual, the real recipient of it is the business.

Offer to help during the transition and afterwards. Don't be negative. There's no point - you're leaving and you want to leave on good terms. Ask if you could use them as a reference.

Better yet, ask for a letter of recommendation. With a letter in hand, you'll have written documentation of your credentials to give to prospective employers.

You may be asked to participate in an exit interview prior to your departure. At this point the organization will appreciate your frank opinion.

Dos and Don’t’ to Resign From Your Job!

Do Clean Up Your Computer. Even if you give notice, your employer may decide that you should be done right now and they may show you out the door. Before you turn in your resignation, clean up your computer. Delete personal files and email messages. Make sure you have the contact information for everyone you need to keep in touch with after you're gone.

Don't Put “all of it” in Writing. Regardless of how much you hate your job, hate your boss, or hate the company, don't write it.

Even if quitting is the best career move you've made, to date, keep it to yourself. Your resignation letter will be placed in your employment file and it can come back to haunt you - even years after you have resigned.

Don't Be Negative! When you're talking about your resignation with co-workers, try to emphasize the positive and talk about how the company has benefited you, even though it's time to move on. There's no point in being negative - you're leaving and you want to leave on good terms.

Don't Forget to Say Goodbye Before you leave, take the time to send a farewell message to co-workers and to let them know that you are moving on to a new position, starting a job search, retiring or doing something else with your life. farewell message
