MORE TESTING VOCABULARY

The purpose for state standardized testing is to allow schools and school districts to look at the progress that their students are making. It also provides a very general overview of a child’s progress on the California Standards. PURPOSE FOR TESTING

The SBAC is for students who are in grades 3 – 8 and 11. At Leitch, the 3 rd Grade students will be taking it. Exceptions: – Students who are English Learners and have been in the country less than 12 months do not take the Language Arts section. – Students in Special Day Classes will take the California Alternative Assessment (CAA). – If a parent does not want their child to take the test, they need to write a letter to the school requesting that their child not take the test (opt-out). WHO TAKES THE TEST

It is a computer based test. The test uses a variety of testing formats (from multiple choice to short answer questions). It has various accommodations and modifications built in for students who are English Learners or who have IEPs or 504 plans. The test is untimed. SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT DESIGN

There are three components for each part of the test (Language Arts and Math). – Computer Adaptive Test – Classroom Activity – Performance Task MORE SBAC DESIGN

REPORT OF RESULTS

A schedule of the dates that each class will be testing will be sent home and placed online. The week before testing begins, each class will take a practice test to prepare the students and the teacher. This test covers the California Standards and so any review and practice of those standards will be beneficial. TEST PREPARATION

Since this is a computer based test, typing and computer skills will be valuable. On the days of the test, make sure your child has a good night’s sleep and a good breakfast. Please do not put to much pressure on your child in regards to this test. We want them to do their best, but not be stressed out about the test. MORE TEST PREPARATION
