Our element is called nitrogen. The symbol for it on the Periodic Table is “N”. The atomic mass number of this element is 14. And the atomic number of protons is 7. The number of electrons is 7 and the number of neutrons is 14. The element Nitrogen, is classified as a non- metal in the Periodic Table.

Nitrogen was discovered by a Scottish physician named Daniel Rutherford in the year of 1772. It is the fifth most abundant element in the universe and makes up about 78% of the earth's atmosphere. The earth’s atmosphere contains an estimated 4,000 trillion tons of the gas. Nitrogen is obtained from liquefied air through a process known as fractional distillation. Liquid nitrogen is an inexpensive cryogenic liquid used for refrigeration, preservation of biological samples and for low temperature scientific experimentation.

The largest use of nitrogen is for the production of ammonia (in scientific terms is known as NH3). Large amounts of nitrogen are combined with hydrogen to produce ammonia in a method known as the Haber process. Large amounts of ammonia are then used to create fertilizers, explosives and, through a process known as the Ostwald process, nitric acid, (which in scientific terms is written as, HNO3.) Nitrogen gas is largely inert and is used as a protective shield in the semiconductor industry. Oil companies use high pressure nitrogen to help force crude oil to the surface.

The element Nitrogen is found in Group 15. Other important elements that are in that family are phosphorus, arsenic, antimony, and bismuth. Nitrogen is found on the upper, right hand corner of the Periodic Table. Our element has absolutely no reactions to anything on Earth.

This is an Ammonia molecule with the formula, NH3. Scientists use the name ammonia, the same way they call H2O water. In this compound, three hydrogen atoms share their electrons with the nitrogen atoms. That way the nitrogen has a filled outer shell and the Hydrogen has two electrons to fill its shells. Its cost is.40 cents per 100 grams. Its abundance in the solar system is 6.496 log. Most uses of gaseous nitrogen depend on its inner characteristics. At high temperatures and pressures, it will combine with some reactive metals (such as lithium and magnesium) to form nitrides, as well as with some gaseous elements such as hydrogen and oxygen.

Here you see the subatomic particles of nitrogen. Here is a picture of how much percent of Nitrogen goes to all dry stock farms.
