2 Anna Jarvis Miss Anna Jarvis was very close to her May 1905 mother. Anna’s mother died in May 1905, when Anna was 41 years old. Anna missed her mother very much. She felt that children should appreciate their mothers more while Mother’s Day they’re still alive. Anna hoped Mother’s Day would increase love and strengthen family bonds. Anna Jarvis Anna’s mother

3 Miss Anna Jarvis started a letter-writing campaign to a variety of influential people. May, 1914, Congress In May, 1914, Congress passed a resolution that made the second Sunday in May Mother’s Day. Miss Anna’s dream came true, and we have a day to celebrate and honor all mothers!

4 Bob : Surprise! Mom : Wow! Pancakes! What a surprise! Bob : Happy Mother’s Day, mommy! I made it just the way you like it! Thank you for being the best mom in the world! Mom : You didn’t mess up the kitchen, did you? Bob : Mommy! Don’t worry about it. Today is your day. You’re not allowed to even move a finger! Mom : You’re right! Then I’ll just stay in bed and enjoy my breakfast.

5 We all know that the carnation is the flower of Mother’s Day. How did this come about? Well, Miss Jarvis’ mother’s favorite flower was the white carnation. Carnations represent the sweetness, purity and endurance of mother’s love.

6 red carnations However, red carnations have become white- the symbol of living mothers while white- carnations carnations signify that one’s mother has died. Give your mother carnations on Mother’s Day and show her your love!

7 1. Make her a Mother’s Day card. 2. Give her a bouquet of carnations and make her a crown that says “Best Mom in the World!” 3. Make mom breakfast in bed. 4. Do mom’s chores for her. 5. Be obedient. 6. Do your homework without being asked. 7. Get along with your brothers and sisters. 8. Leave a love letter on the pillow for mom.

Eeyes “E” is for her eyes, with love-light shining. Rright “R” means right, and right she’ll always be. MOTHER Put them all together, they spell “MOTHER,” A word that means the world to me.
