2. My name is Ashley Vander Wiede and I am interested in a position at your school teaching 2 nd grade as the lead teacher. I have a Bachelors Degree in Education and am currently working on my Masters Degree. After a recent interview at this school I realized quite a few things that I would like to change. I feel that my strengths in technology and common core curriculum would be a great assets to your school and most importantly your students. All students deserve the best education they can receive and I plan to give everything I have to ensure they grow in learning and have fun while doing it!

3. I believe that students should be able to trust their teacher. I feel that there is a connection made between students and teachers, a relationship, that is everlasting. Children spent the majority of their day with their teacher. They listen, learn and grow with each other. As a teacher, I feel that it is vital to treat each and every student with respect, compassion, empathy and honesty. NOTE: To change images on this slide, select a picture and delete it. My students can expect to find all of these qualities in my classroom. No matter what their background is they will all be treated equally. I know that all students are different and that some are more difficult than others, my promise to myself has been to always remind myself that everyone can learn, they just need a different approach to get them there.

The beginning of the year sets the tone for your students. It is important to have a plan before your students arrive. You need to spend some time in the first week talking to your students and laying down the rules and expectations for the classroom. According to Fred Jones' Positive Classroom Discipline, "The most widespread management technique at home and in the classroom is nag, nag, nag." "It's also probably the least effective." In my opinion being consistent with your expectations, rules and consequences is crucial.

7. Today's students need to know not only the basic reading and arithmetic skills, but also skills that will allow them to face a world that is continually changing. They must be able to think critically, to analyze, and to make inferences. Changes in the skills base and knowledge our students need require new learning goals. These new learning goals change the relationship between assessment and instruction. Teachers need to take an active role in making decisions about the purpose of assessment and the content that is being assessed.
