3. Part 1 : Research instrument FP 7, the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development. EU's main instrument for funding research in Europe. 2007-2013. 1 935 Million euros for "Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Biotechnologies" Currently, FP7 funds 22 projects related to plant science and including at least one African partner. Total : over 95 M euros.

12. Concluding remarks Europe has a lot to offer and not only funding ! Europe has shared interest with developing countries Proposals for new research collaboration should  be embedded in existing policy and priority setting mechanisms (CAADP, GFAR/GCARD)  and add value to current large initiatives, like the CGIAR Research Programmes and the FAO Tropical Agricultural Platform.
