4 BASIC RULES Conduct yourself in a responsible manner at all times in the laboratory. READ & Follow all written and verbal instructions carefully. If you do not understand a direction or part of a procedure, ASK YOUR TEACHER BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE ACTIVITY. 5 EQUIPMENT TEST TUBE TONGS BALANCE GRADUATED RING STAND

6 PETRI DISH BEAKER FORCEPS PIPET

7 . #11. use a BALANCE to find the mass of an object #12. mass of an empty beaker….should be close to 90 grams (don’t forget units!) #13. mass of graduated cylinder…should be close to 17 grams #14. use a graduated cylinder to find a volume of liquid #15. to determine the mass of water: get mass of beaker…get mass of beaker + water …subtract mass of beaker…this leaves you the mass of water #16. the mass of 25 ml of water would be about 25 grams #17. use a THERMOMETER to find the temperature; the temperature of the water in the beaker should be about 20 o Celcius #18. the WIDTH of the paper is 21. 7 cm #19. to convert cm into mm…move decimal one place to right; therefore the paper’s width in millimeters would be 217 mm
