2 VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION 2015 National Stand-Up for Cleanliness Stand-Up for Cleanliness supports the EPS mission to create healthy, healing environments for our nation’s Veterans and their families that inspire, enable and sustain health and well being. Goals: –Share new technologies –Celebrate successes –Enhance staff awareness –Establish partnership with stakeholders –Address common environmental issues –Improve visibility throughout medical center Cleanliness is everyone’s business!

3 VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION Background Information Why We Did This –GAO/OIG summary reviews have identified cleanliness concerns –Cleanliness is critical to providing a safe, healing environment for Veterans and their families. –Providing a positive experience for our Veterans in every facility is the expectation. As a result, the Acting Deputy Under Secretary for Health for Operations and Management directed all VISN’s to conduct the following - –Host a Cleanliness Stand-Up Event –Conduct & Upload Self-Assessment –Ensure Sustainability –Complete & Upload After Action Review

4 VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION Goals Share new technologies –ATP monitoring –UVC disinfection –Fluorescent monitoring Celebrate Successes –Display quality data –Highlight expanding roles Enhance Staff Awareness –Educate others on role of EMS –Increase EMS awareness of latest initiatives –Achieve buy-in from all levels

5 VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION Goals Establish partnership with stakeholders –Leadership –Infection Prevention & Control –Nursing –SPS –Engineering –Safety Address common environmental issues –Pest control –Two-step cleaning and disinfection Improve visibility throughout the medical center

7 VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION Include hands-on learning –Demonstrate bed cleaning, contact times, Luminometer readings –Display new equipment –Guided tours Utilize training videos –“What Clean Means” from EPS home pageEPS home page Represent each section of EMS with a separate station Lessons Learned

9 VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION Standup Results 97.2% of facilities conducted Stand-Up For Cleanliness events 90.1% of facilities completed and uploaded EOE Self-Assessment reports

11 VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION 2016 Stand-Up for Cleanliness Each VA Medical Center will hold a multi-service Stand-up for Cleanliness event. This should include Sterile Processing Service, Safety, Engineering, Logistics, ID, etc. Include a focus on: –Patient Centered Care –Leaders Developing Leaders The optimal timeframe is during housekeeping week, which is September 13-19. However, the deadline for completion is December 31, 2016. Completing and submitting the Elements of Excellence review (self assessment) is not required.
