1 INTERNATIONAL SKILLS PARTNERSHIPS
ADVANCED PROJECT JANUARY APRIL 2016

2 INTRODUCTION In January 2015 Vuselela TVET College joined Orbit TVET College in the Advanced Partnerships Project. The project focuses on: Lecturer Development as well as whole organisation staff development and continuous professional development for non-academic staff and college leaders. Engineering lecturers with better artisan competencies, in support of the Decade of the Artisan agenda. Embedding a college-wide approach to enterprise, employability skills / soft skills and entrepreneurial spirit with a formal programme of activity which includes wider use of the Enterprise Passport. Lecturers Training Module for Embedding Enterprise, Employability and Entrepreneurship in the Curriculum.

3 LECTURER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
Lecturers that would attend the Lecturers’ Development Programme were identified per campus. The programme assists lecturers in their development and also forms part of the college intervention strategy. The project team prepared the lessons as indicated in the guidelines issued to them. The programme was offered during the second semester of 2015 and will continue in 2016.

4 LECTURER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

5 DECADE OF THE ARTISAN This section will commence during the second phase of the project. The Motor Mechanical workshops will be transformed into a practical simulation room. The ERD students will, under the supervision of their lecturers perform practical tasks, e.g. Pre-delivery inspection of a vehicle Service a vehicle Wheel balancing Use a jack, etc.

6 EMPLOYABILITY AND ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS
Students need to be equipped with employability skills or soft skills and entrepreneurial skills that are necessary for economic growth, social development and sustainable employment.

7 ENTERPRISE PASSPORT The Enterprise Passport is a tool which will help you to develop your capacity for enterprise, innovation and initiative. The Enterprise Passport from the UK was adjusted to accommodate the students of Vuselela TVET College. The document will be completed by our students in the simulation room. The passport will also be extended to students doing practical experience at companies.

8 LECTURERS TRAINING MODULE
The Edison Training Programme was introduced to our lecturers. The aim is to support lecturers to reflect and develop their own entrepreneurial knowledge, skills, thinking and attitude. This knowledge and skills will then be embedded and transferred to our students. Research shows that young people with entrepreneurial experience during their education are not only more likely to start their own businesses, but are employed faster too.

11 BRINGING THE LEARNING HOME
Bringing the Learning Home Conference was held from the 17 – 20 November 2015 at Birmingham (UK). Key highlights of the conference were: Interactive workshops Networking opportunities Awards dinner Visit to the UK Skills Show Visit to the UK employers Visit to Dudley College and Walsall College Attendance at the International Policy Forum as part of the Association of Colleges Conference

15 SKILLS CONFERENCE The Skills Conference was held on the 9 March 2016 .
The key note address – Breaking silos and boundaries to collaboration was delivered by Ms P Moloi (Executive Mayor Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality)

16 SKILLS CONFERENCE The panel discussions - How sectors can move away from working in silos and promote collaboration to grow skills for employability were facilitated by: Dr E Pedro (Acting Regional Manager NWDE) Rev B Masibi (Skills Development Facilitator, City of Matlosana) Mr S Siluma (Siluma Electrical and Building Construction) Mr T Ngcobo (Deputy Principal Academic Services, Vuselela TVET College)

19 PARTNERSHIP VISIT TO HARROW COLLEGE
The South African partners visited Harrow College (UK) from 20 – 27 March 2016. During our visit we learned more about: The Learning Centre and Students Portal Reading Challenge Career Guidance Officers and the Enterprise Passport Student Support Services Employability and Apprenticeships Edison Training Programme

20 PARTNERSHIP VISIT – HARROW COLLEGE
We visited the Image Salon at Harrow College and were treated with a manicure.

21 PARTNERSHIP VISIT – HARROW COLLEGE
The visit to Harrow College was a life changing experience and several valuable lessons were learnt that can be implemented and will be of value at Vuselela TVET College.

22 DISSEMINATION FUNCTION
The Dissemination function for the International Skills Partnerships Project was held on the 15 April 2016. The highlights of the project were discussed during this event.
