Check the date on foil packaging to ensure it is within the expiry date before using. 2

Remove the Medix cup from the foil package by tearing the top off in front of the person being tested. 3

Remove key from the lid of the Medix cup. The key is held by the person conducting the test. Key 4

Open the lid and give the Medix cup to the person being tested. Advise them a minimum of 20mls of urine is required to run a test. Instruct them to click the lid shut before they return it to you. 5

Check temperature strip. Any faint change in colour on the temperature strip indicates that the urine is at body temperature- between 33-38⁰C. This must be read within 4 minutes of urine collection. If the urine is not within this range the test must be repeated. 6

Push key firmly into the side of the cup as shown. This activates the test, so start your timer. 7

Remove green sticker and discard. Place the cup on a flat surface. 8

Ensure the 3 control lines (C) are showing on the test panel. If not, the test is invalid and must be repeated. 9

11 Wait for 3-5 minutes before reading the adulteration results. See next slide for instructions. Adulteration panel Adulteration card – showing window circled 10

Read adulteration results by placing the adulterant card window over the adulteration panel on the Medix cup. Compare the colours on the adulterant card to the colours inside the window of the adulterant card. Ensure they fall within the NORMAL range shown on the adulterant card. If the adulterants are abnormal this indicates the urine has been altered or contaminated and a new sample should be obtained for further testing. 11

Read drug test results at 5 minutes. These will show below the C lines. A negative test will show a line. Even if it is a faint line, this is still a negative. Any positive results will have no line present; these tests should then be sent to a lab for confirmation testing. 12

Record results on the drug testing form if required. 13
