Objective: Students get basic orientation to class and travel to get his/her school photo taken. DO: 1. Read Syllabus tonight-get signed. 2. Figure out how you will print a 4x6 selfie. 3. Find 4 favorites that relate to you.

2 English 10 “A” Day 9/9/15 #3 Objective: Students will review the analysis notes in the reading packet by completing several review and analytical activities. Task #1- Put up photographs. 2.. Notes on “Move # 3” 3. Complete several review activities. Keep a running total in your notebook. 4. Get stamps for completed handbook notes. Homework: By Friday: Read “Move # 4” and complete notes on your own. Page # 3 of handbook- page # 4 overall.

Students will learn the differences between simple simply making judgements and actually making inferences based on implicit observations. Tasks today: 1. Syllabus breakdown(10) 2. Letter to teacher(20) write first 2 paragraphs. 3. Analysis packet: Move #1 plus what is analysis and how does it work. Notes for handbook. Teacher analysis. (30) 4. Name tag creation: Creating. Objective # 2 : Students will learn the essentials of “Move # 4” in the analysis packet by completing handbook notes and referring to power point slide for scaffolding information. Tasks: 1. Review activities galore.

6 English 10: “ A” day- 9/15 Objective: Students will review the analysis notes in the reading packet by completing several review and analytical activities. Tasks to do: ** Review last page of notes for “Move # 5” 1. Analysis of Code person. 2. Jolie ad. 3. Mr. Crowley 3. Get stamps for all 3 analysis pieces from Friday today. -Gets stamp for final page of handbook. 4. Topic ideas for essays. 5. Hand out essay directions and rubric. 6. First draft due on Monday-typed. Worth 2 stamps. 7. Thursday-district assessment.

7 English 10 “A” day- 9/17 Objective: Students will take a district pre-assessment in order to help teachers evaluate student reading and writing. Task 1: Take assessment test. Objective # 2: Students demonstrate understanding of the analysis reading packet by writing an analysis on a topic of their choice. Task 1: Read updated rubric and essay instruction. Task 2: Turn in Analysis handbook. Task 3: Work on rough draft, pre-write, outline or brainstorm on personal topic. Task 4: Get chosen topics checked off. Homework: Draft 1 of essay is due on Monday.

8 English 10 “A” Day- 9/21 Objective # 1: Students view a model for their summary/analysis essay and learn how to organize paragraph structure. Task 1: Take notes on paragraph structure. Task 2 : Take notes on writing a claim with 5 parts. Task 3: Take rough draft and organize into paragraph structure. Task 4: Write a claim based on student’s topic of analysis. Task 5: Write a pre-write based on your rough draft. Homework: Bring an organized draft # 2 to class on Wednesday. It should be different from what you brought to class today. Future File: Essay will be due next Tuesday for “A” day and Monday for “B” Day. Start Dystopian literature unit on Wednesday.

9 English 10- “A” day 9/23/15 Objective # 1: Students will learn the correct format of the essay which they turning in next Tuesday. (45) Task 1: See example. Task 2: Get stamps for claims, pre-writes and drafts. Task 3: Writing conference with Mr. Crowley. Task 4: Draft, check format, and have a peer read draft. Task 5: The peer writes a note on top of explaining what the subject that was analyzed. The student points out one aspect of paper that they liked.

10 English 10: 9/23 & 25/15 “A” day Objective: Students continue to learn the denotation of the Dystopian and Utopia in order to understand the basic premise of our new literature unit. Task 1: Take notes on definitions. Task 2: Write acrostic poems. Task 3: Listen to songs about utopian and dystopian themes. Task 4: Read Thomas More’s view on “Utopia” Task 4: Complete activities related to songs.

11 English 10: “A” Day. 9/30 Objective: Student’s read a utopian/dystopian tale, an article and an ad in order to understand synthesize and get a fuller understanding of the topic. Task 1: Review “Utopian” questions 1-4. Task 2: Turn in Friday’s group work on two songs and utopian games. Task 3: Preview vocabulary in “There Will Come Soft Rains.” Task 4: Read ‘There Will Come Soft Rains” Task 5: Complete written responses on “There Will Come Soft Rains.” Task 6” Read article on “Inside the Home of the Future” Task 7 Read ad on “The Car of the Future” Task 8 Complete synthesize questions on both sources.

12 English 10: “A” Day. 10//1 Objective: Student’s read a utopian/dystopian tale, an article and an ad in order to understand synthesis and get a fuller understanding of the topic. Task 1- warm up : Finish reading ‘There Will Come Soft Rains” and picture preview. Task 2: Complete written responses on “There Will Come Soft Rains.” Task 3 Read article on “Inside the Home of the Future” and respond to questions. Task 4 Read ad on “The Car of the Future” and respond to questions.

Task 1: Warm up # 2 Unit 2- Find 3 passages from Bergeron and comment in regards to dystopia or utopia. Task 2: Write claims Task 3: Discuss “quick Write” homework. Task 4 : New story- “Harrison Bergeron” p. 38. A. Evaluate visual on page 39. B. How much control should government have in our lives? C. What would world be like if everyone is average? Exactly the same? D. Read story as class- p. 38.

Task 1: Warm up # 2 Unit 2- Find 3 passages from Bergeron and comment in regards to dystopia or utopia. Task 2: Eight 5 minute tasks. Task 3: Discuss story for points. “Harrison Bergeron” p. 38.

16 English 10: 10/14- “A” Day Objective: Students will demonstrate comprehension of “Harrison Bergeron” by completing take home quiz questions. Please type and have printed before you come into class. Thank you. Homework: 1. Answer questions on “Harrison Bergeron” 2. Read technology article. Task 1: Please keep homework papers for synthesis essay. Future File: 1. Work with technology article on Friday 2. Read short story “ The Pedestrian” on Friday. 3. Complete quotes and comment sheet by Monday.

17 English 10: Friday, October 16 Objective: Students complete a close reading of the Technology use article in order to synthesize and evaluate evidence. Warm up: Discuss take home questions regarding “Harrison Bergeron” and turn in. (15) Task 1: Complete group synthesis activity regarding technology article. (30) Task 2: Read “The Pedestrian” and practice close reading. (30). Task 3: Homework- re-read “The Pedestrian” and complete annotation activity.
