2 What is a possessive noun?  Shows who or what owns something  To show OWNERSHIP, you add an apostrophe (‘) and –s when the noun is SINGULAR  The turkey’s tail  When a noun is PLURAL, just add an apostrophe (‘)  The rabbits’ tails.

3 What word shows ownership?  Bob’s dog ran away.  Mom’s shoes are missing.  Those are the boys’ hats  Her sister’s name is Julie.  The dog’s collar is red.  The girls’ uniforms are awesome!

4 Plural Possession: to most plural nouns make them plural by adding an apostrophe (‘)  Horsethe ______________________ head  Goats the ______________________ legs  Lion the ______________________ mane  Bearthe ______________________ fur  Animals the ______________________ dinner

5 Would you add ‘s or ‘ to make the noun possessive?  The wind blew all of the (books) covers off.  The (car) horn was loud.  The three (desks) drawers are all full.  Did you see the (tiger) face?

6 Is it plural or singular?  The penguins’ home is in Antarctica. PLURAL or SINGULAR  The tree’s leaves are yellow. PLURAL or SINGULAR  The teachers’ copy machine never works. PLURAL or SINGULAR  The student’s homework was handed in. PLURAL or SINGULAR  The students’ textbooks were ruined in the flood. PLURAL or SINGULAR  The girls’ laugh could be heard down the hall. PLURAL or SINGULAR  The boy’s scream scared his neighbor. PLURAL or SINGULAR
