RIO SALADO COLLEGE DUAL ENROLLMENT

WHAT IS DUAL ENROLLMENT  Dual enrollment classes are taken at your local high school and taught by high school instructors.  $86 a credit hour  Textbooks are provided by the school  Some Dual Enrollment classes require placement tests before enrolling.  Teachers are specially qualified to teach college curriculum

READY, SET, GRADUATE!  College Completion rates are dismal  Nationally less than 50% of students enrolled in college will earn an associate degree within three years or a bachelor’s degree within six years.  Drop-out rate alarming!  Twenty-five percent of the full-time freshman at four-year institutions drop out and 39% of the freshmen at two-year institutions do not return the following fall. The rates are even worse for part-time students (Karp, 2012).

BENEFITS OF DUAL ENROLLMENT  Increases retention and completion of college  Helps prepare students for the academic rigor of college  76% of students are not prepared academically and 43% of 2-year community college students require remedial course work  Helps with job placement

COURSE TRANSFERABILITY  Articulation agreements are in place among all Arizona public colleges and universities, as well as several Arizona private colleges  Students are generally successful in transferring courses to out-of-state colleges and universities due to Rio Salado College’s accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission and (NACEP) the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partners  Confirm transferability with intended out-of-state colleges

The Maricopa County Community College District Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC) consists of 35-38 semester-credits that fulfill lower-division general education requirements for students planning to transfer to any Arizona public community college or university. Benefits for completing the AGEC during high school: AGEC transfers as a block to all AZ universities. Completion of AGEC guarantees acceptance to AZ universities. Students complete their General Education requirements before entering the university. Provides foundation for students to build on in working towards an Associates or Bachelors degree. Increased scholarship opportunities for students with AGEC or AA. AGEC/AA Success Coach: Bob Brown Phone# 480-517-8125 or Robert.Brown2@riosalado.edu  Students may also be eligible for Concurrent classes. Upon approval from the high school, students enroll in online classes at Rio Salado and earn high school and college credit. The DE-AGEC Advantage

COLLEGE COMPLETION AND RETENTION  One of the most powerful advantages of dual enrollment courses is the momentum or jumpstart the classes provide for students.  Students enter college with credits from Dual Enrollment are more likely to graduate from college.

Dual credit students are 2 times more likely to return the second year and 1.7 times more likely to complete a college degree
