These flowers flaunt bright colorful disks gracefully balanced on long slender stems, and lacy foliage. It is a plant that's easy to grow and thrives even on poor soil.

5. Flower tower Crocuses blossom at the foot of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, making the monument more photogenic then usual.

6. Purple park People stroll through a sea of crocuses in a park in Husum, Germany. Those people may have 15th century monks to thank for the 4.5 million blossoms: According to a legend, those monks planted the first crocuses there.

7. Butterfly kisses Monarchs rest on top of flowers at the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, near the town of Chincua, Mexico. While monarchs are not endangered, scientists say deforestation could threaten their existence.
