1 Homeostasis Do Now: How does your body react to hot and cold environments?

2 Homeostasis Homeostasis is the process by which an organism’s internal environment is kept stable in spite of changes in the external environment. In other words, your body is trying to stay the same and resist change.

3 Can you think of any examples when your body resists change from the environment?

4 Examples Your body tries to stay the same temperature Sweat keeps you cool Shivering keeps you warm

5 Stress and Homeostasis Stress is the reaction of your body to potentially threatening, challenging, or disturbing events. Take a look at what happens during a bike race on page 11. Make a graphic organizer showing the reactions that happen from the bike race and how your body returns to homeostasis.

7 Review Body Organization and Homeostasis What are the levels of organization in the body? What are the four basic types of tissue in the body? Define homeostasis. Why is homeostasis important to our body?

8 Stations Vocabulary- Find the key terms and define them in either words or drawings. Computer- Visit my website to review the powerpoint that was presented to the class or read the online textbook. Homeostasis- Create a comic strip in reference to homeostasis. Current Events- Read a current event article and write a reaction, reflection, or summary. Guided Reading- Meet with the teacher to review the text. Concept Map- Create a concept map explaining the levels of organization for several body systems.
