5 Why PTA? When you’re a PTA member, you’re part of something bigger… 4 million members in 20,000 units worldwide. More than 135,000 members in more than 950 units in North Carolina. PTA members advocate for students on issues that matter to you locally, statewide, and nationally, such as: – Shrinking budgets; – Increasing class sizes; – Government mandates; – Fewer TAs and school nurses; – Driver’s education funding.

6 Why PTA? Family participation in education was twice as predictive of students’ academic success as family socioeconomic status. More than 85 research studies conducted over the past 30 years prove that kids do better when parents are involved: – Grades are higher; – Test scores improve; – Attendance increases; – Kids stay in school longer; – Drug and alcohol abuse declines; – Students are healthier.

10 NCPTA Database Where to find it – www.ncpta.org/dbwww.ncpta.org/db Local units use the NCPTA Database for the following purposes: – Enter the name, address, and email address of PTA officers – Enter the name and email address of members – Send email directly to members of your PTA – Confirm your PTA’s annual Financial Review has been completed and results reported to your PTA’s Board of Directors – Enter the filing date of your PTA’s annual IRS Form 990 – Print membership cards

13 Online Membership Payments When members join your PTA Online: $4 is paid directly to NCPTA for state and national dues The local unit portion of dues is paid directly to your local PTA PayPal Account Member pays the Paypal fees of $0.60 + 2.2% Members can pay with a credit card or their personal PayPal Account A membership card and welcome letter is emailed to the member The member is automatically entered in the NCPTA database You may download a list of members from the NCPTA database User has option of making a donation to your PTA when joining

14 Online Membership Payments How to Enroll Your PTA Step 1: Create a PTA PayPal Account - If your PTA does not already have an active PTA PayPal account, you will need to create one. Follow these step-by-step instructions to create a PTA PayPal account. step-by-step instructions to create a PTA PayPal account. Step 2: Contact office@ncpta.org to enroll –Simply send an email to NCPTA with the following information and our office staff will enroll your PTA.office@ncpta.org o Your name and email o Your PTA School and county o Your PayPal email address o Your PTA dues amount Questions?
