Challenges in staffing the new courthouse 318,533 sq. ft. & 11 floors 141,562 sq. ft. & 6 floors 25,692 sq. ft. & 4 Floors 167,254 sq. ft.

Other Major Concerns The new courthouse has very long hallways with recesses which cause blind spots. Holding cell procedures in the courtroom will be very different from the current Judicial Building  If Sheriff’s Office is not properly staffed it will take the courtroom deputy out of the courtroom every 15 mins. when detainees are in the holding cells so that detainees can be properly monitored.

The new courthouse has only one entrance for employees, attorneys and citizens to enter as opposed to five we currently have.  Although the number of entrances will decrease, having only one entrance will put a tremendous amount of traffic into a single area. Without proper staffing this area will not be able to run efficiently and can pose significant security risks if not properly managed. Other Major Concerns

There will be a need for a roving deputies in order to check the holding cells every 15 minutes, as per Sheriff’s Office Policy and be able to transport detainees to and from their holding cells from the basement and to the courtroom and back to the basement.  This deputy will also be utilized to transport detainees to complete DNA and fingerprinting Other Major Concerns

Additional 4 level, 900 space parking deck that the Sheriff’s Office will be responsible for calls for service and securing. Other Major Concerns

Staffing Request 11 additional deputies will provide adequate staffing to the new courthouse. With 11 deputies the Sheriff’s Office can perform all the functions required to operate the facility efficiently and securely and supports the County’s recently adopted Strategic Plan.

If 8 additional deputies were approved to cover the new courthouse, the Sheriff’s Office would be unable to effectively staff the following 3 areas:  Parking deck  Front desk  The security monitoring station Other Scenarios

If 6 additional deputies were approved to cover the new courthouse, the Sheriff’s Office would be unable to effectively staff the following additional areas:  2 roving Deputies  Hallways  Stairwells  Checking detainees as per Sheriff’s Office Policy  Parking deck  Front desk  The security monitoring station Other Scenarios
