2 MC Hammer  MC Hammer aka Stanley Kirk Burrell is a American rapper and dancer best known for his hit song “U Can’t Touch This” contactmusic.com (2012).  Upon leaving the military MC Hammer set up his own record label called “Bust It” later adopted the name “Bustin’ Records” Along with his friend and contemporary rap artist Vanilla Ice contactmusic.com (2012).  MC Hammer soon became criticized for the repetitive nature of his songs and for sampling other people's songs to provide the basic hook for his own contactmusic.com (2012).  The criticism failed to dent MC Hammer's popularity contactmusic.com (2012). 2

3 C+C Music Factory  C+C Music Factory wasn't really a group, it was the product of Robert Clivillés and David Cole, two pop- savvy dance producers. Artistdirect (2012).  The producers had a solid and original rapper in the group which was really important to the success of the group.  The sound of the group was a combination of hip-hop and club sensibilities to mindlessly catchy pop tune. Artistdirect (2012).  The group has three major hit singles: "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)," "Here We Go," "Things That Make You Go Hmmmm...” Artistdirect (2012).  Only one of the three hits made its way to #1 on the billboard top Artistdirect (2012). 3

4 Whitney Houston  Whitney Houston released her debut album at age 22 and scored three number one singles Poemhunter.com (2012).  Whitney has won six Grammy awards, and sold over 170 million combined album, singles and videos sold worldwide during her career with Arista Records Poemhunter.com (2012).  Whitney Houston has established a benchmark of super stardom, and is one of the of the biggest female pop stars of all time Poemhunter.com (2012).  She became the first artist ever to have seven consecutive singles hit number one, and her 1993 Dolly Parton cover "I Will Always Love You" became nothing less than the biggest hit single in 1993 Poemhunter.com (2012). 4

5 House of Pain  House of Pain is an Irish American hip hop group formed in 1990 in Los Angeles, CA Starpulse.com (2012).  House of Pain debut album (1992) went multi-platinum Starpulse.com (2012).  The hit single "Jump Around," an impossibly infectious and catchy single, instantly elevated House of Pain from an unknown white hip-hop group to near-stars when it became a massive crossover hit in 1992 Starpulse.com (2012).  It made the band and it also broke the band, consigning them to the level of one- hit wonders Starpulse.com (2012).  House of Pain continued to release records after their eponymous 1992 debut and "Jump Around," yet none of them gained much attention. “Jump Around” was #3 on the Billboard Top 100 in 1993 Starpulse.com (2012). 5

6 Destiny’s Child  Destiny's Child were formed in Houston, TX, in 1990, and rose to become one of the most popular female R&B groups of the late '90s BMG Music and Entertainment 2007.  Destiny's Child is one of the biggest selling female groups ever with a combined record sales over 40 million world wide, and their records debuted at the top of the charts BMG Music and Entertainment 2007.  The single “Say My Name” became a widely known and popular song in the 90s and earned #1 on Billboard Top 100 in 1999. The single “Survivor" hit stores in the spring of 2001, and entered the charts at number one BMG Music and Entertainment 2007.  Destiny's Child has won enumerable awards including three Grammys and the group was successful and each individual has had superlative solo careers BMG Music and Entertainment 2007.  The group disbanded in January 1, 2006 to pursue individual solo careers BMG Music and Entertainment 2007. 6

7 TLC  TLC were formed in Atlanta, GA, in 1991 and blended pop, hip-hop, R&B and urban soul to superstardom during the '90’s Sing365.com (2000)  The group consisted of Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, rapper Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas Sing365.com (2000).  TLC was one of the biggest-selling female R&B groups of all time by blending catchy hooks and bouncy funk with a sassy attitude. Initially, their image was equal parts style and spirit Sing365.com (2000).  In 1992 they debut their first album titled “Ooooooohhh...On the TLC Tip” and “ Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg," established their quirky, colorful fashion sense Sing365.com (2000).  Their second album CrazySexyCool eventually sold over 11 million copies in the U.S. alone, and won a Grammy for Best R&B Album Sing365.com (2000). 7

8 Eminem  AKA Marshall Bruce Mathers III he participated in the 1995 Rap Olympics in LA aiming to win the $1,500 cash prize, unfortunately he lost due to a slip up Eminem.net (2010).  In 1996, his debut album Infinite and in 1997 The Slim Shady EP was released on cassette, vinyl, and CD Eminem.net (2010).  The Slim Shady CD went on to be one of the most popular albums of 1999, going triple platinum by the end of the year Eminem.net (2010).  2002 was a big year for Marshall. He branched out into the world of acting, filming 8 mile which was produced. Based on his own life Eminem.net (2010). 8

9 The Spice Girls  The Spice Girls were formed in 1993 and was were the first major British pop music phenomenon of the mid-'90’s The Spice Girls.com (2007).  Wannabe," Spice Girls' first single, was released in the summer of 1996 and became the first debut single That song went to Number 1 in the UK and 30 other countries The Spice Girls.com (2007).  They were the fastest selling British band since the Beatles The Spice Girls.com (2007).  Second album Spiceworld sold over ten million copies and the movie Spiceworld grossed in excess of $100 million in cinema ticket and DVD sales The Spice Girls.com (2007). 9

10 En Vogue  En Vogue is an American female R&B vocal group from Oakland, California formed in July 18, 1988 Starpulse.com (2012).  The group has won more MTV Video Music Awards than any other female group in MTV history, a total of seven, along with four Soul Train Awards, six American Music Awards, and seven Grammy nominationsStarpulse.com (2012).  According to Billboard Magazine they were the 18th most successful act of the 1990s, and one of the most popular and successful female groups of all time Starpulse.com (2012) Starpulse.com (2012).  Their first album “Born to Sing” was released on April 3, 1990. and charted at number twenty-one on the Billboard 200 and number three on Billboard's R&B Albums Chart Starpulse.com (2012).  The first single, "Hold On," became a crossover pop hit, reaching number two on Billboard's Hot 100 singles charts, and number one on both the R&B singles and Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts. It later went to #5 in the UK, and became a hit in Europe Starpulse.com (2012). 10

11 Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch  Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch was an American hip-hop group formed in 1991 in Boston Massachusetts Discogs.com (2012).  The leader of the group Marky Mark is a rapper who broke away from New Kids on the Block and electrified the nation with his own funky, street-smart beat Discogs.com (2012).  The group is best known for the song "Good Vibrations", which made it to Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1991 and "Wildside" which went to #10 on the Hot 100 Discogs.com (2012).  The album went gold on November 15, 1991 before being certified platinum on January 14, 1992 Discogs.com (2012).  At the height of the group's success, they a had a video game released however, the group disbanded in 1993 Discogs.com (2012).  The leader of the group Marky Mark AKA Mark Wahlberg is an successful actor in the United States Discogs.com (2012). 11
