26  A rather dry air mass (preceding a rain storm) may lead to higher than expected ceilings.  Evaporative cooling which occurred with the onset of the heavier rain also kept ceilings higher than expected as did a mean southeast (downslope) flow.  Widespread isentropic uplift leads to reasonable rainfall estimates.
