5 On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, 6 with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. 7 And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, 9 if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. 11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:5-12

John 20:31 Romans 1:18-23, “ 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.” Objection 1: What About General Revelation? Can people not respond to the light they have and go to heaven?

John 20:31 Objection 2: Is Scripture clear on this issue? John 14:6, “ 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Heb. 10:12, “ 12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God.” It was Christ, it was single, and it was for all time. There is no other name under heaven. 1 John 5:11-12, “ 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.”

John 20:31 1 Cor. 3:11, “ 11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” 1 Tim. 2:5-6, “ 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.” Phil. 2:9-11, “ 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Objection 2: Is Scripture clear on this issue?

John 20:31 Romans 10:14-15, “ 14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Objection 3: “What about those devout religious seekers who don’t know the name of Jesus? Do you really believe that devout religious seekers will go to hell simply because they did not know the name of Jesus?”

John 20:31 Matthew 26:39, “ 39 My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” If there had been another way, would God not have answered this prayer? Objection 4: That’s not fair! God isn’t cruel enough to send all those people to hell who have never had an opportunity to hear the Gospel?

John 20:31 To believe there are many ways to heaven trivializes the necessity of Jesus’s death on the cross.

John 20:31 There was only one way to provide salvation—Jesus’s death. There is only one way to receive salvation—by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
