4 World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) - a specialized agency of the United ‎ Nations (UN) and the leading international organization in the field of tourism. It serves as a ‎ global forum for tourism policy issues and a practical source of tourism know-how. ‎ - plays a central and decisive role in promoting the development of responsible, ‎ sustainable and universally accessible tourism, paying particular attention to the ‎ interests of developing countries. - intergovernmental organization with membership includes 162 countries and territories and over 500 Affiliate ‎ Members representing the private sector, educational institutions, tourism associations ‎ and local tourism authorities. ‎ - encourages the implementation ‎ of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, with a view to ensuring that member ‎ countries, tourist destinations and businesses maximize the positive economic, ‎ social and cultural effects of tourism and fully reap its benefits, while minimizing its ‎ negative social and environmental impacts. ‎ - committed to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, geared ‎ toward reducing poverty and fostering sustainable development. ‎ www2.unwto.org/en/content/who-we-are-0

9 MISSION AND OBJECTIVES MISSION OBJECTIVES -Implement the UNWTO Programme of Work -Reinforce the Members relation -Strengthen the Public-private partnership (PPP) within the Africa Region -Enhance the Capacity building -Promotion of the Africa’s image and tourism branding Support and assist forty-nine UNWTO African Members and other stakeholders from their region in their efforts to develop their tourism industry as a catalyst for sustainable economic and social development. Ensure that the Members fully benefit from the services of the organization

10 Travel Advice and the Internet Travel advice started to change in the mid 90‘s Aims in first instance at tourists and secondly at tourism organizations Increasing constantly in importance So far mainly focus on travel advice, less on event information

11 Georeferenced Information and the Internet Start of Google maps in 2005 Constantly increasing High importance for travel, tourism and emergency information

12 Areas –geographical areas affected / reported on Time –related to issuing of the information –related to the duration (start / end) Dissemination –mechanisms –interfaces Three Areas of (special) Interest

19 The Toolbox Structured and written in a generic manner Ready to use in the 5 official languages Includes templates, checklists and samples

20 Licence Agreement Members are invited to customize the Toolbox to increase its relevance even further Licence agreement is free of charge

21 Development UNWTO provides Word template, as well as original layout Use of standard UNWTO cover UNWTO and logo of Ministry on the front cover Dissemination to agreed audiences
