2 Bay Water Level Markers Purpose: To increase the awareness of Bay water levels and its influencing factors such as tides, storm surges, and sea level rise.

3 Bay Water Level Markers Sites considered 10 th Street Boat Ramp Van Wezel Marina Jacks Bridge Pilings at Eloise Park Bay Island Park Estimated costs: $15,000 Costs include infrastructure, documenting site conditions such as water depths, sea grasses, existing waterway signage, etc. and permitting process.

5 Beach Erosion Education Center Location: Lido Beach. Educational sign showing rates of erosion over time and actions city has taken. Translate existing technical documents for signage. Estimated costs: $15,000

6 Steps to Climate Adaptation Plan Identify the Problem Determine Vulnerabilities Investigate Options Evaluate Risks & Costs Take Action Vulnerability assessment of public infrastructure and privately owned areas. White paper based on literature review of science on projected impacts for Sarasota. Identified Adaptation strategies for greatest vulnerabilities Identified costs and risks of adaptation strategies. City chooses strategies. Work Product Completed Adaptation Plan with future funding addressed.

8 Sustainability Program Year 1 Workplan Summary – Fiscal Year 15/16 Create Sustainability Report cards for internal and community-wide metrics Perform updated greenhouse gas inventories Create and facilitate an internal green team Implement a Climate Change Adaptation Planning Process Install Bay Water Level Markers and Lido Erosion Education Center Actively participate in national, regional, and local sustainability groups Coordinate living seawall pilot project Support a residential and commercial recycling education initiative Phase 2 of a guaranteed energy performance contract for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects Support tree protection ordinance text amendments Provide input / edits to policy documents such as comp plan, floodplain management plan, UDS articles, etc.

9 Costs Climate Adaptation Strategy – estimated at $125,000 Services to include: Literature review and white paper on projected impacts for City of Sarasota, vulnerability assessment, adaptation strategies identification, quantification of costs & risks, complete adaptation plan. Cost estimate based on review of scope and costs of 9 other jurisdictions who received similar assistance.
