3 Holidays in the US Common celebrated holidays for Mexican families in US: Christmas Day (December 25) Mexican families open presents at midnight Christmas Eve Cinco de Mayo (May 5) Celebrated in American schools. Traditional Mexican Food: Pozole is the most common food cooked for special occasions. Over time, some Mexican families confirm to eating the traditional Ham or turkey for their celebrations. Others have both.

Ensembles – conjunto, conjunto norteno, banda, mariachi, tamborazo Popular music - Latin Alternative, Mexican ska, rock, pop and electronic. Others – bolero, romantic/Latin ballad, Cumbia Mexican Hat Dance - Mexican folk dance called Jarabe Tapatio Loco - Bachata Latin song current today.

Mothers – Heart of the family Cook, clean, craft for money and their family. Fathers – make family decisions, rarely challenged Earn money for the family Sisters – learn how to be like mom Help mom cook, clean, craft for money and their family. Brothers – must defend the honor of their sisters Help earn money any way they can.

6 How it changed in US Mothers – heart of the family (home maker)
Focused on family life Fathers – the worker bee (earn money) Focused on making a living, stays out of family issues. Children – get a good education No longer required to chip in and help mom.
