SEGMENT AND ANGLE QUIZ CONSTRUCTION DAY SEPTEMBER 30, 2014 Objectives: The student will be able to…  To demonstrate proficiency with segments and angles.  Construct an angle bisector using a compass and a straightedge.  Construct a perpendicular bisector using a compass and a straightedge.

AGENDA  HOMEWORK CHECK  WARM UP  QUIZ (30 minutes)  Construction Lab (Angle Bisector and Perpendicular Bisector)

WARM UP

SEGMENT AND ANGLE QUIZ- 30 MINUTES  Please clear your desk except for a pencil and calculator.  Check your work! Did you use the proper notation?  When you are finished, you may start tonight’s homework assignment.  No cell phones for music.

CONSTRUCTIONS  You will need a compass, protractor, and a ruler for today’s lesson.  You are responsible for the following constructions:  Angle Bisector  Perpendicular Bisector

CONSTRUCTING AN…ANGLE BISECTOR DEFINITION: An angle bisector is a ray that divides an angle into two congruent angles. Its endpoint is at the angle vertex. VIDEO LINK: Angle Bisector Video Link

CONSTRUCTING A….PERPENDICULAR BISECTOR DEFINITION: A perpendicular bisector of a segment is a line, segment, or ray that is perpendicular to the segment at its midpoint, thereby bisecting the segment into two congruent segments. VIDEO LINK: perpendicular bisector construction - YouTube

CONSTRUCTING A….MIDPOINT DEFINITION: A midpoint of a segment is a point that divides a segment into two congruent segments. A midpoint, or any line, ray or other segment through a midpoint, is said to bisect the segment.

EXIT TICKET  Divide the following segment AB into four segments of equal length.

 In addition to the discussion, a kinesthetic activity that can illustrate the idea of an angle bisector is to ask students to get out of their seats and position themselves at equal distances from two adjacent classroom walls. The students form the bisector of the (likely right) angle formed at the meeting of the adjacent walls.
