13 Charters Granted by the National BSA Organization Council Charters –This is a charter to each council Chief Seattle Council Mt. Baker Council Pacific Harbors Council Local Organization Charters –This is a charter to support a particular unit of Scouts Private School PTSAs or parent groups Local Churches e.g. Methodist, LDS, Catholic etc. Service clubs e.g. Lions, Rotary, Kiwanis Veterans associations e.g. VFW Outdoor-oriented organizations or businesses e.g. REI

14 Local Council Provides to the Charter Organization Leadership Development Program Resources Service Center Camps and Facilities Liability Insurance Assistance in Leader Selection

15 Council Responsibilities Respect Org Aims/Objectives Training for the COR Training, Service & Support Coaching on Leader Selection Primary Insurance Protection Camps & Professionals

16 Chartered Organization Uses Scouting Under its Own Leadership To Serve Families that are part of its organization or as outreach to the community For its Own Objectives

17 Chartered Organization Responsibilities Comply with its own and BSA Policies Include Scouting as Part of its Overall Program for Youth and Families Appoint a Representative as the COR Create a Scout Committee of Parents and Others Provide a Secure Meeting Place Encourage Outdoor Experiences

18 Chartered Organization Representative's Duties Not an Honorary Position, but it is an Honor to have this position. Head of Organization’s Scouting Dept. Responsible for Unit Leadership. –Committee Chair is selected by COR. –Other Unit Leadership is selected by the Committee Chair and approved by the COR. Liaison to Local Scout Council Voting Member of the District Committee. Voting Member of the Council
