Community Relationships By: Becca Crusselle

Child Development Center (CDC) CDCs are located on military installations They service children ages six weeks to five years old. Rooms are set up to accommodate the various ages. Every center is different in how it is set up and how many rooms there are

Infants These four rooms are broken into two groups: – Zero - six months – Six months - year The ratio for children-to-staff is 4:1

Pre-Toddlers There are four rooms Children are ages one - two The child-to-teacher ratio is 5:1 In order for children to be moved up from infants into this age group they need to be able to eat from a table with a spoon and fork

Toddlers There are four rooms Children are ages two – three The children-to-teacher ratio is 7:1 This is usually when the potty training begins

Preschool There are four rooms Children are ages three – five The ratio of children to teachers is 12:1 It is the job of these teachers to ensure that the children are ready for Kindergarten

The Community There are many things that the center does in the community: They participate in Go Green – a initiative to show children how to recycle, reduce, and reuse The sanitation department came to visit and talk with us about

The Community The Army Corps of Engineers have been invited into the CDC to talk with children about wildlife. The children go out on the playground and help clean their play area We invite horticulturists in to talk with us about how to garden

The Community Each room has their own garden plots in which they can grow a variety of vegetables. The children learn how to tend to their garden and when everything is grown, they get to eat the fruits of their labors. We go on fieldtrips to local orchards to learn about various fruits and vegetables

Supporting the CDC The best way that the community can support the children is by showing their continued support by volunteering to come and teach or children. Another way for the community to support the children is by allowing us to visit your establishments
