Title: What problems were there after 1649? Target: to understand the problems in running England Keywords: REPUBLIC MONARCHY

Level 6 – I can explain why causes made something happen and why the results were as they were.

If my side had won a Civil war and I had the power, the things in Britain I would change for the better would be….. Get together with the people on your table and work out…… Thought – what would CAUSE you to do to think and do these things?

Can you remember what the three main CAUSES of the Civil War were? What were the King & Parliament arguing over? Money and wealth Religion Power and making laws Do you think killing the King would have solved all these problems?

Take a page in your book, and divide it into THREE columns, and SIX rows write down in the correct column the name of the group that wanted to change how each column was run in England. Religion Power to make laws Money

Thought – what would CAUSE them to do to think and do these things? Everyone was absolutely equal before God, King and poor man alike. They refused to take off their hats to the Lords and the King to show respect.

Thought – what would CAUSE them to do to think and do these things? They believed that God had let them ignore all human rules because they were “perfect” Often they walked about naked, had more than one wife at a time and robbed people….. God forgave them every time !

Thought – what would CAUSE them to do to think and do these things? Equality for all MEN, but not women!

Thought – what would CAUSE them to do to think and do these things? Ludowicke Muggleton was a shoemaker from London. He believed he was Jesus Christ, and his friend, John Reeve, was John the Baptist. Muggleton’s Church only died out in the 1920s.

Thought – what would CAUSE them to do to think and do these things? They once put a huge bush of prickly thorns in a church pulpit to stop a vicar from preaching against them. It worked !

Thought – what would CAUSE them to do to think and do these things? Some believed that if they killed all sinners, Jesus would come back sooner. One day in the 1650s a group on horses rode around London shooting at people not in Church on a Sunday – hoping this would bring Jesus back to earth.

1. Describe what was happening in England at this time. 2. What new thoughts were people having now that the King and old ideas were gone?

If you were a rich Lord, who owned lots of land and who had supported the King…. What would you think about all this talk? Thought – what would CAUSE them to do to think and do these things?

If you were a poor peasant, who had fought the King and wanted a new start for the country, what would you think about all this talk? Thought – what would CAUSE them to do to think and do these things?

If you were a rich Lord, who owned lots of land and who had supported the King…. What would you think about all this talk? If you were a poor peasant, who had fought the King and wanted a new start for the country, what would you think about all this talk?

Q. What kind of place would England have been like to live in with all these new ideas bursting out all over the place? Explain why and mention some groups…

Level 6 – I can explain why causes made something happen and why the results were as they were. Have you achieved this level?
