1 British Romantic Era By: David Gonzalez Audrey Baik Jessica Ambarian Ethan Barker

2 Introduction The romantic era was an artistic, literary, and intellectual movement that originated in the second half of the 18 th century in Europe. It was a revolt against aristocratic social and political norms of the Age Of Enlightenment. It was made into forms of natural art and element of nature. The characters were often a gifted, misunderstood, loner.

3 The British Romantic Era This movement was a time of creative literature. This time period took place from 1785-1837 in Britain. Throughout this time period, the French Revolution began, and U.S declared war on Britain.

6 William Wordsworth William Wordsworth was born and spent his life in the Lake District of England. He started the Romantic Movement, and was England’s Poet Laureate in 1843.

7 Wordsworth: Expostulation and Reply The poem Expostulation and Reply represents William Wordsworth’s love of nature and his habit of sitting still in one spot for long periods of time, absorbing the nature around him.

9 Percy Bysshe Shelley (4 August 1792 – 8 July 1822) was one of the major English poets and was known for his association with Lord Byron. He believed in Idealism and had a strong, disapproving voice.

10 A Summer Evening Churchyard, Lechlade, Gloucestershire Talks about things in nature. This poem is a little dark and deep and talks about death. It is mostly about terror and talks about how life really is. It has a lot of older english in it. Percy put a lot of thought into this poem and explains many things.

11 George Gordon Lord Byron George Gordon Noel Byron was born on 22 January 1788 and 19 April 1824 in Missolonghi, Greece. He died of fever and exposure while dealing with Greek struggle for independence. He was among the most famous of the English Romantic poets.

12 There Be None of Beauty’s Daughters This poem personifies beauty. Also talking about beautiful women. Throughout the rest of the poem Byron uses metaphors about nature to show how beautiful women are.

13 William Blake William Blake was born in 1757. He was a genius in poetry, painting, and religion. Blake was poor and died without recognition.

14 The Laughing Song William Blake’s poem, the “Laughing Song" reflects on what this time period is about because it describes nature and life for the common man.

15 William Blake: Laughing Song When the green woods laugh with the voice of joy, And the dimpling stream runs laughing by; When the air does laugh with our merry wit, And the green hill laughs with the noise of it; When the meadows laugh with lively green, And the grasshopper laughs in the merry scene, When Mary and Susan and Emily With their sweet round mouths sing “Ha, Ha, He!”
