1 Drugs and Suicide By: Brandon Bigelow and Matt Utech

2 Theme Theme-suicide and depression happens too often and should be taken more seriously. In the United States every 14 minutes someone commits suicide. The leading cause is depression. Depression needs to be treated more seriously so there is not so many deaths.

3 Romeo and Juliet and The Theme In Romeo and Juliet they are constetly depressed when Romeo is banished from Verona and can't see Juliet. Juliet says "is there no putty sitting in the clouds that sees the bottom of my grief?"(Shakespeare,3,5) This latter makes Romeo and Juliet commit suicide.

4 Research question Do drugs contribute to suicide and depression of modern American teens? In this research question it will make you think that does drug use contribute to suicide still today like when in Romeo and Juliet

5 Topic Topic in Romeo and Juliet-Suicide and Depression Current Topic-Drugs Culture These two topics were picked because teen suicide and depression still happen today and there are also a lot of drugs out in this period so the events in Romeo and Juliet could happen today.

6 Drugs The use of drugs among teens has doubled since 1991. One fourth of 52000 students said that they have used illegal drugs. Some teens are thinking that using drugs is ok. Drugs speed up your heart rate and body tempurture and also make what your eyes see different then what's really there. Also your skin feels weird and different when your on drugs. "drugs affect the central nervous system (CNS). Made up of the brain and spinal cord, the CNS controls not just your thinking, feeling, learning, and movements, but virtually everything your body does." This says that when someone uses drugs it takes over their body and they are not who they usually are.

7 Suicide There was a total of 80 deaths in Canada and the U.S. relating to drug use in 2003. Drugs also include heart risks in children, women and infants. When someone is depressed they become isolated from family or friends. lose interest in favorite activities, starts neglecting personal appearance has changes in eating or sleeping habits. increases use of drugs or alcohol. gives away prized possessions. talks about feeling hopeless, worthless, or trapped. Talks about suicide either directly or indirectly. Also suddenly seems very happy after a long period of sadness. In 2003 one in six teens took a survey and said they thought about suicide. Untreated depression in number one for teen suicide in the United States and needs to be treated more.

Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die. Dies In this art of Romeo and Juliet Romeo uses drugs to commit suicide because he thinks Juliet is dead

9 Teens Today One teen says she tried several medications before she found the right one for her to help with her suicide. "Getting help is so worth it, you have to persevere through the first stages," she says. Now 21, she's been off medication for several years and is in college. In 2003 one in six teens took a survey and said they thought about suicide. Untreated depression in number one for teen suicide in the United States and needs to be treated more.

10 In conclusion In the end research shows that The uses of drugs contributes to the suicide and depression of American teens.
