Example of PostDoc selection process Job offer made public in early November Spires, ATLAS collaboration, lab’s websites, private networks… Open until 15th of December Selection committee : F.Ledroit (ATLAS LPSC group leader), I.Wingerter (LAr project leader and LAPP member), B.Trocmé 7 applications received: 3 judged not suitable for the profile (poor knowledge of collider physics) 4 persons interviewed the 2nd of January. After interview The 4 applicants were considered as of high quality. 1 candidate was found to be particularly suited for the job : PhD in 2010 on LAr calorimetry and exotic physics search. 2010-2013 : Fellow at CERN working on central trigger processor. Reference letters written by 3 persons of the ATLAS top management. Consensus among committee to propose her on the job in late January. Job accepted on the 1st of February. Successful applicant : Carolina Gabaldon for a start at 1 rst of May Net salary conditions : 2340 euros/month (> 3 years after PhD defense) 13

ENIGMASS actions for PhD and Master students For its first year, ENIGMASS has funded (and co-funded) 5 PhD grants : - 2 for theory @ LPSC - 1 for particle physics @ LAPP - 1 for cosmology @ LPSC - 1 for astroparticle physics @ LAPP The grant amount for the student is the same as for those given by the doctoral school but students are also given funds to go to conferences and buy a computer. 14

ENIGMASS CS, February 19th 2013. 15 European School of Instrumentation in Particle and Astroparticle Physics ESIPAP  Regional observation :  we miss a few students per year highly-educated in HEP instrumentation  yearly regional recruitment rate (~5 y -1 ) too low to create dedicated Masters  Suggested solution :  follow the JUAS model in Archamps  add options in regional (French and European) Masters and factorize at the European level  first recruitment campaign : 2013-2014
