M.Rathor. Chapel en le Frith High Ask the Audience Okay Audience, Let’s vote. Hands Ready!

M.Rathor. Chapel en le Frith High Is that your final answer? OH! I’m sorry that’s wrong!

M.Rathor. Chapel en le Frith High At the beginning of the play, the Narrator introduces Mrs Johnstone as “the mother so cruel”. How does the play go on to create sympathy for Mrs Johnstone? What is the best way of approaching this question?

M.Rathor. Chapel en le Frith High In the order of events Make a quick list – off the top of your head – without reading the book of the events that you can recall that create sympathy for Mrs Johnstone.

M.Rathor. Chapel en le Frith High Examplar Material We are going to look at a B grade answer from a realexamscript. Look carefully through the answer and highlight: 1 PEE Chain; 1 quote from the play; 1 detailed explanation; Any direct links that link back to the question. Annotate the answer looking carefully at how it is structured. What do you notice about the structure.

M.Rathor. Chapel en le Frith High Examplar Material We are now going to look at an A grade answer from the mocks. Again, look carefully through the answer and highlight: 1 PEE Chain; 1 quote from the play; 1 detailed explanation; Any direct links that link back to the question. Annotate the answer looking carefully at how it is structured. What do you notice about the structure.

M.Rathor. Chapel en le Frith High Using PEE without quotes P – Point E – Evidence E – Explanation The evidence can also be paraphrasing of the events that happened or references to the events. You do not have quotes, but it would be completely appropriate to know them and embed them.

M.Rathor. Chapel en le Frith High Where are the embedded quotes? We feel sympathy for Mrs Johnstone at the outset of the play when she sings that her and her husband went dancing. She explains that she used to look like Marylyn Monroe, but she was 25, looking 45. This makes us feel sorry for her because she doesn’t look like she should and she’s had a hard life. When she tells us that her husband went dancing with another woman who looked liked Marylyn Monroe, we feel further sympathy for her because she is left with several mouths to feed.

M.Rathor. Chapel en le Frith High Creating PEE

M.Rathor. Chapel en le Frith High The Narrator constantly sings “The devil is gonna get ya” suggesting that the events of the past will catch up with the Mrs Johnstone. How much can we blame Mrs Johnstone for the death of the twins?

M.Rathor. Chapel en le Frith High Blood Brothers – Exam Answers Today’s lesson Objectives: To revise the techniques required in the exam. To unpick successful answers and understand how to achieve your best result. To revise the play, “Blood Brothers”.
