The Bible Teaches Pentecost Acts 1:3-8; 2:1-4; John 14:15-17; 16:7-15

When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. Acts 2:1

[Jesus] presented himself alive to [his disciples] after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Acts 1:3-5

When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:1-4

Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment. John 16:7-8

THE SPIRIT’S PRESENCE

“The presence of the Holy Spirit and the manifestation of his presence are not the same. There can be one without the other. God is here when we are wholly unaware of it. He is manifest only when and as we are aware of his presence.” A.W. Tozer, The Pursuit of God

THE SPIRIT’S PRESENCE

THE SPIRIT’S PERSON

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14:15-17

THE SPIRIT’S PERSON

THE SPIRIT’S POWER

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…

THE SPIRIT’S POWER “The greatest need today is for men and women who know Jesus Christ as Savior to be filled with the Holy Spirit. If we are not filled with the Holy Spirit, we are sinning against God.” Billy Graham

THE SPIRIT’S POWER “The one thing needful for the church, and the thing which, above all others, men ought everywhere to seek for with one accord, and with their whole heart, is to be filled with the Spirit of God.” Andrew Murray

THE SPIRIT’S POWER “The power given is not a gift from the Holy Spirit. He, Himself, is the power. Today He is as truly available and as mighty in power as He was on the day of Pentecost.” Hudson Taylor

THE SPIRIT’S POWER “Wherever one looks in the church today there is an evident need for a deeper work of the Holy Spirit.” John Stott

THE SPIRIT’S POWER Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

THE SPIRIT’S POWER “We can’t fully embrace the Go-Mission until we embrace the “don’t-go-mission.” Steve Fowler Lead Pastor of Salam Alliance Church
