7 Advertising Options Various web sites offer free advertising: australiandoctor.com.au racgp.org.au medicalobserver.com.au

8 Hotspots: Towns that have no doctors. Towns that have doctor shortages. Doctors near retirement no replacement. Lack of community services/hospitals. Coastal and regional areas. Currently 35 hotspots. 9 within 100km of coast. Information from Divisions & surgeries.

9 DWS The Australian Government defines a District of Workforce Shortage as a geographic area in which the general population need for health care is not met. The statistics used to determine districts of workforce shortage are calculated using a doctor to population ratio based on recent Medicare billing statistics for a shire or local district. DWS is updated every 3 months and compares the area’s ratio against the national average. The Current Ratio is 75.8 doctors per 100,000 people or 1 doctor per 1319.2 people. A preliminary assessment can be done if an area is not classed as a DWS.

10 Area of Need: For OTD’s without FRACGP and AMC’s. Area of Need is practice (location) specific. Generally needs to be a DWS. AoN status allocated by NSW Health. Non-transferable to other surgeries. Need to advertise for a fully registered doctor before AoN status is granted. Normally AoN positions require clinical supervision. AoN positions require renewal.
